"It is written in our very skin." In the healing arts our bodies hold the original memory of perfection, it also holds patterns of negative experiences, thoughts and feelings which result in illness. It can feel etched in stone, never to change. The one thing that healers and artists have in common is the ability to transform using our natural resources. To access something deeper beyond our afflictions is not shying away from humanity but meeting it face to face.
Grey is the color of light coming through the dark. A divine light starts to shine through as we make room for our natural perfection to emerge. As an artist grapples with the human condition so does a healer in bringing forth our struggles and to shed light on a whole new possible way of living life. Artists create something real.A piece of clay creates a bowl, paint creates a painting, movement a dance, words a play. So we too can rewrite our lives through the healing arts, our heart's desire not our ego's desire which can look very different and cause only suffering. When our hearts are open and our vision and insight is coupled with courage we can and do make wonderful things happen.
"A phrase from the drug culture "speed kills" warns us of the danger of too much velocity. We are vulnerable and exquisite creatures, complex mechanisms intended to move at a human and humane pace. We elect that pace every time we slow down to gather - and feel - our strength. Speed creates an illusion of invincibility we need to live more deeply and quietly." Julia Cameron - Walking in this World
This sort of frenetic energy gives us the illusion that we are going somewhere. It is a poison that affects the art world and the healing arts. The reality of real change happens when we are centered in spirit, deeply rooted and have created a healthy relationship with ourselves and others. Trained in dance for 5 yrs and now 7 in contact improvisational dance the ability to move off center is when you have a strong center. On the healing path we need to build a strong practice towards health, when we have gathered healthy practices we have enough strength to delve into difficult places. If we try to skip this step we will not have the juice to face difficult patterns of behavior or tendencies that rule us. For performers it is the same - an overdose of drugs, a breakdown. Without true soul and inner guidance destructive energy is focused on our spirits instead of on patterns and tendencies that are harmful to us.
"An opportunity should feel like Christmas morning magical. An opportunist grapples and grabs; an air of desperation lingers as they take advantage of people and events." Julia Cameron - Walking in this World.
I remember when i saw this quote; a light bulb went off. Faith in ourselves and in opportunities can be magical; a strong synchronicity and beauty can be apart of the unfolding. I don't have to flail and struggle and lose energy over all of this. Hours pass when hard at work and in the energy of creativity it gives us rest. Satisfying not collapsing. A true deep rest, awakening to renewal, dreams leading us to start again. This takes a strong faith and trust that we are held in the universe striving towards a deeper purpose than just survival.
"So much in our culture now seems to agitate and in certain ways we buy into it. We find ourselves living out the script that others have written for us. Or we react compulsively and repetitiously against it, still slaves to a script, but in another way. "There is an alternative, and the still point provides it - to realize our unconditional freedom." John Daido Loori - The Zen of Creativity
